Cape Town protest - Ugandan Bill & Jon Qwelane
11 February, 2010
CAP TOWN — Cape Town Pride invites our partner organisations, friends and comrades, human rights and LGBTI activists, and all those who are distressed and angered by the apparent appointment of Jon Qwelane as South Africa's Ambassador to Uganda, to join us in a peaceful protest action. This protest will focus both on the appointment of John Qwelane and on the issue of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill in Uganda.
If the Ugandan “Anti-Homosexuality Bill” passes in the Ugandan parliament, LGBTI people and their family and friends will live in fear of imprisonment and in fear of the death penalty.
Jon Qwelane is currently being sued by the SA Human Rights Commission in the Equality Court over his 2008 anti-gay article published in the Sunday Sun.
Date: Friday 12 February
Time: 13:00-14:00
Venue: Outside Parliament.
