Pretoria's Pink Music Affair this August

July 01, 2009

Eden
PRETORIA — Pretoria celebrates its Rainbow Community this August with a day of music, entertainment and fun for the whole family at the Voortrekker Monument’s Amphitheatre.

The Pink Jacaranda Music Affair will paint the city all shades of pink on Saturday August 15; featuring live performances by Afrikaans rocker KAREN ZOID, the legendary ELZABÉ ZIETSMAN and South Africa’s leading boy band, EDEN.

“The Pink Jacaranda Music Affair is not only about a community celebrating its identity, but also reflects the diverse fabric of our Rainbow Nation and its wonderful constitution,” said creator of the Pink Jacaranda and well-known events promoter, Fulvio De Stefanis.

Led by the day’s Master of Ceremonies, MARTIN BESTER, the event will also feature the spectacular MR & MISS LEGENDS PAGEANT, in which Pretoria’s Legends will crown its two ambassadors for the coming year.

But it doesn’t end there; Legends will also present a dance floor with the best beats brought to you by the club’s hottest DJs. At the other end of the spectrum, children can expect jumping castles and pony rides, ensuring that there’ll be entertainment for all tastes.

Those in the mood for shopping will be able to browse the Pink Market, with up to 100 stalls offering home industry, jewellery and clothing items. A full bar with great specials will keep the thirst at bay, while hunger pangs can be sated at the Conference Centre which will offer lunch and light meals.

Entrance fee is only R50 for the day and this includes a raffle entry to win great prizes including Jenna Clifford jewellery, a Carol Boyes piece, makeovers and much more. And remember, kids under eight get in free!

The Pink Jacaranda Music Affair is a unique addition to Pretoria’s cultural and entertainment calendar: an opportunity to spend a vibrant day outdoors enjoying the best of South African talent.

The Pink Jacaranda Music Affair, set to paint Pretoria all shades of pink on Saturday August 15, is proud to announce the addition of two further artists to its entertainment line-up: The ever-popular SA Idols finalist Melanie Lowe and leading South African funny man Marc Lottering.

They will be joining Afrikaans rocker Karen Zoid, the legendary Elzabé Zietsman and South Africa’s leading boy band, Eden, on the Pink Jacaranda stage at the Voortrekker Monument Amphitheatre. Led by the day’s Master of Ceremonies, Martin Bester, the event will also feature the spectacular Mr and Miss Legends Pageant.

In addition to the day’s entertainment, it has been announced that OUT-Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender (LGBT) Well-being will also be playing a major role at the Pink Jacaranda Music Festival.

OUT-LGBT Well-being is co-sponsoring the event and will showcase two of its largest programmes, namely the Play Safe Campaign (an HIV testing initiative addressing the links between substance use and HIV transmission) and the Prism (Prevention and Research Initiative for Sexual Minorities) Lifestyle Centre (an initiative aimed at promoting the health of LGBT people, while at the same time building a sense of community).

OUT-LGBT Well-being is a non-profit organisation based in Pretoria for almost 15 years. It is dedicated to building healthy LGBT communities in Tshwane, Gauteng and South Africa and aims to reduce heterosexism and homophobia in society.

“OUT-LGBT Well-being is proud to be associated with an event that will celebrate diversity, and promote acceptance and inclusion, with a day of music, entertainment and fun where everyone is welcome,” said Jacques Livingston, the organisation’s Sexual Health Manager.
