New Zealand gay swim club celebrates 15 years

It's been 15 years since Ron Judd helped found Team Auckland Swimming, New Zealandís premier swim club for gay men and women to come together to train, compete, and help raise money for charities. This year the club is holding a stylish 'Crystal Queer' banquet dinner and party to celebrate its birthday.
Judd has been a powerful force in bringing gay sports to New Zealand. He has not only founded the Auckland's gay swimming club, but was instrumental in leading and organizing Team Auckland Multisports which has been a presence at the last two Gay Games.
About his club Judd said, "It is more socially oriented (club) and not only interested the swimming." The members have a wide variety of interests including sailing, skiing, and other sporting activities and the club offers the members a place to meet regularly and plan future events.
"In other words, it has become a life style." Judd adds.
The team meets twice a week for swim time and has over 60 active members who help with training and fundraising. Each year, during the three week gay pride HERO Festival, the team holds a 'Chocolate Fish Swim Meet' which raises money for charities like Rainbow Families and Rainbow Youth.
