September 20, 2004

PRAGUE — A gay party expected to attract up to 15,000 people from all over Europe this weekend was cancelled just hours before it was due to kick off in Prague after the American organisers announced their bankruptcy, Czech news wire CTK reported.

More than 3,000 tickets had been sold abroad for the Mr Circuit event which had been primarily organised by the US company Egayworld and was due to be staged in Prague's Industrial Palace, CTK said.

"The American organiser which was supposed to provide all the equipment, the renting of the venue, lighting and the participation of foreign and Czech celebrities, was not able to meet a single one of its obligations," local organiser Tomas Lastovicka told the news agency.

"Two of the three organisers are now in police custody," he added.

Lastovicka said earlier that he expected four or five times as many people as the number of tickets sold abroad to attend the event.

The company declared bankruptcy late Thursday, according to CTK. – Sapa-AFP
