Sweden's largest union becomes main gay pride sponsor

STOCKHOLM — The Swedish Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) said on Tuesday that it would become the main sponsor of Gay Pride, a gay and lesbian festival scheduled to take place in Stockholm at the end of July.

"The fight against discrimination due to sexual orientation is an important union issue," LO head Wanja Lundby-Wedin said in a statement.
"I see this as yet another validation that we are serious when we talk about how all people are equal and have the same rights," she added.
LO, which counts two million union members out of a population of about nine million, said it would donate 300,000 kronor ($40 000, €33 000) to organizers of the Pride festival.
The union confederation will also train "help phone" personnel to answer questions concerning homo- bi- and transsexuals, Lundby-Wedin said. –Sapa-AFP
