Gay soccer showcase for Copenhagen

COPENHAGEN — Copenhagen will stage the 2005 Gay World Cup with 20 men's teams and 20 women's sides, Danish gay organisers said Wednesday.

Copenhagen staged the 2003 Eurogames with competitions for gays in nine events.

Previous Gay World Cup soccer tournaments have been held in London, Sydney and Boston.

Denmark was the first country to authorise gay weddings in 1989. – AFP
