Patrick Swayze cancer diagnosis true, prognosis not true

A publicist for actor Patrick Swayze has confirmed that the 55-year-old actor is indeed suffering from pancreatic cancer, but says rumors the actor has been given a mere five weeks to live are not true.
Rumors began to spread earlier this week that the Dirty Dancing star had been given the grim prognosis after the National Enquirer ran an article reporting Swayze had not responded to chemo treatment.
In a statement responding to the articles claims, Swayzes publicist writes: "Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Patrick's physician Dr. George Fisher states, 'Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.'
"Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."
The Enquirer article claims the cancer has already spread from his pancreas to Swayzes other organs and that the actor has given up seeking out alternative treatments.
According to various statements from doctors, the typical patient diagnosed with pancreatic cancer is given anywhere from six to nine months to live, with less than four percent of patients living more than five years Gay Link Content
