NEW YORK — Barbra Streisand has long been known for her outspoken political views, but apparently one fan wasnt interested in the White House commentary at the singers Madison Square Garden concert Monday night, prompting the Oscar winner to cuss him out of the building.
The 64-year-old singer came out of concert retirement this month with a series of concerts across the United States aimed at raising money for a number of Streisands charities, and in addition to her beloved songbook of hits, the singer treated fans to a bit of political jabbing.
The staunch Democrat was forced to shut down a heckler at her celebrity packed concert after he took offense to a political satire sketch that had an actor as the Republican president rattling off lines like, "I'm concerned about the national debt, so I'm selling Canada," and, "If I cared about the polls I would have run for president of Poland."
"Come on, be polite!", Streisand first urged the few hecklers who booed the sketch. But one heckler then shouted, "What is this? A fundraiser?, the irritated songstress responded, "Why don't you shut the fuck up! If you can't take a joke, why don't you leave and get your money back."
According to the Associated Press, the man then walked out of the concert to which fans, including Oprah Winfrey, applauded.
Despite the New York incident, Streisands concert tour is setting records. In Philadelphia, her October 4 tour opening concert was the highest grossing single event in the ten year history of the Philadelphia Wachovia Center. The show grossed more than $5 million in one night. – Gay Link Content
