R&B; Singer Marla Glen and girlfriend celebrate gay union
July 05, 2004
HEILBRONN, Germany — Wearing her trademark tuxedo and top hat, American R&B; singer
Marla Glen signed documents at the Heilbronn town hall Friday
officially tying the knot on her gay relationship with German-born
girlfriend Sabrina Conley.
Conley wore a white lace-trimmed bridal gown as the couple
embraced and kissed on the town hall steps for television crews as
champagne corks popped.
"Thanks to Germany's liberal gay marriage laws I can say I have
finally fully arrived in this country," said the husky-voiced Glen,
43, who hails from Chicago.
She met Conley, 23, in Germany last year.
The wedding day agenda included a concert in Dortmund Friday
evening. Under a 2001 law, gay couples can register with local
authorities in Germany, giving them limited legal rights.
Having just completed a European tour, Glen is working on a new
album for release early next year. She is best known for her 1990s
hits The Cost of Freedom and Believer. – Sapa-DPA
