Following on the success of its Car-of-the-Year Polo 1.4 TDI, Volkswagen South Africa has launched a new Polo flagship in the form of the 1.9 TDI. The 1.9TDI produces 74kW at 4 000 rpm and a maximum torque output of 240Nm.

Transferred to the front wheels by a 5-speed manual gearbox, this engine propels the Polo from standstill to 100km/h in 10,7 sec and allows a top speed of 188km/h. The new model comes with spunky 16-inch Barcelona alloy wheels shod with low profile 205/45 R 16 tyres and sports seats, as well as an impressive array of safety and comfort features. There's a front-loading six CD changer, remote central locking, and an alarm / immobiliser, as well as driver and passenger airbags and ABS brakes with EBD. Those who want more can shell out extra cash and enjoy satellite navigation and cruise control as well.
