LOS ANGELES - In the battle of the sequels, Terminator 3 out-muscled Legally Blonde 2, according to preliminary box office figures out Sunday.
The latest Arnold Schwarzenegger offering, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, is expected to take in $44 million during its weekend debut, Encino-based Exhibitor Relations reported.
That is almost double the $22.9 million Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde is expected to earn in its opening weekend. That take put the Reese Witherspoon comedy in second place.
Last week's leader, Charlie's Angles: Full Throttle, dropped to third, earning about $14.2 million.
Finding Nemo ($11 million) was fourth, followed by Hulk ($8.2 million), the opening of Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas ($6.8 million) and 28 Days Later ($6 million).
